Are Nfl Teams Punished If They Only Talk To A Black Coach According To The Rooney Rule?

The earlier question on the Rooney Rule made me think of something. Suppose a team only interviews black coaches, and no white coaches. Are they fined by the NFL?
Or, let’s take another scenario. Suppose instead of talking to a black coach, what if a team decides to talk to an Asian coach?
I can’t find information that really says anything on the issue.

No. The Rooney rule only requires that a minority candidate (not specifically a black candidate) be interviewed for the position of head coach. There’s no guarantee or requirement that the coach will be hired. As long as the team interviews a minority, they have complied with the rule, whether they interview one minority and 100 white coaches, or 100 minorities and no white coach.

the rooney rule will not punish a team if they don’t interview a white coach. the rule only states that it is mandatory to interview minority coaches and white is not a minority. which was the case with the detroit lions. the rule also states that its ok to hire a coach without interview if in his contract states that he can have the position if it becomes opened. which is what happened to mike martz in st. louis.
if a team doesn’t interview a black coach and goes for an asian coach then they are ok.

The Rooney Rule states teams have to interview at least one minority candidate for a head coaching position.
Your first scenario happened in a way this year when the 49ers just promoted african american interim head coach Mike Singeltary to head coach without interviewing other candidates.
Your second scenario can happen because Asians are a minority and so are blacks.
